John Brennan Controversy

A veteran Central Intelligence Agency official appointed to review the US government’s defective terrorism watch-list system, was actually involved in designing it, and later helped sustain it through a lucrative private-sector contract. John O. Brennan was appointed by President Barack Obama on Sunday to head a “comprehensive interagency review” of travel security measures, after it was revealed that the father of Umar Farouk AbdulMutallab, the Christmas Day airline bomb plot suspect, had notified the CIA about his son’s activities.

It turns out, however, that not only was Brennan part of the US National Counterterrorism Center team that designed the terrorism watch-list system, but he also helped sustain it while heading the Analysis Corporation, a scandal-prone private contractor charged with overseeing the watch-list system.

Politico’s Carol Lee and Laura Rozen are among the very few reporters who have connected the dots on Brennan. They report that the same individual who “helped design the current watch-list system and served as interim director of the National Counterterrorism Center, whose role is under review” has been tasked with assessing the very system helped set up.

Late on Thursday, White House attorneys apparently “determined that the benefit to the public interest of having Mr. Brennan conduct the review far outweighed any potential conflict of interest”. But the controversy remains: Lee and Rozen quote an anonymous “former senior intelligence official” who describes Brennan’s latest appointment as “unsavory”.

UFC Predictions 108: Cole Miller vs. Dan Lauzon

The first of our UFC 108 predictions will be on the SpikeTV-televised fight between Cole Miller and Dan Lauzon.

SBGglobal Sportsbook has all of the UFC 108 odds ready to go and it looks like the first of our SpikeTV fights will have Cole Miller as a -170 favorite over Dan Lauzon.  New customers get a 30% bonus on top of their first deposit and we recommend these guys for all of your UFC 108 betting predictions.

Miller brings a 15-4 record into UFC 108 and the lanky American Top Team member is coming off a devastating knockout loss to Ultimate Fighter winner Efrain Escudero.  Miller is a submission specialist with 10 wins coming by tap out but it’s his lack of striking skills that have cost him a few losses in recent fights.

Cole will be going against Dan Lauzon and his 12-2 MMA record in this SpikeTV bout.  Lauzon actually fought in the UFC back at UFC 64 and is the brother of Joe Lauzon.  Lauzon is a finisher who uses both strikes and submissions but he has not shown top-notch striking either.

This one is one of the toughest UFC 108 betting predictions to make because Lauzon is taking a big step up in competition here and its unclear whether or not he’ll be able to achieve the same success in this organization his brother has achieved.

Our predictions hinge on Lauzon being a little bit better in the striking and wrestling department with Miller having a better ground game.  Make your UFC 108 predictions on Lauzon being able to get the takedown and win the standup.  As a big underdog, he’s worth a bet and we’ll hope he avoids the Cole Miller triangle choke.

Make sure to check out our other UFC 108 predictions as well.
